The Majors Tennis Academy

We would like to introduce you to Rachel Gans and Xander Spong, the owners of The Majors Tennis Academy.

Xander was introduced to tennis by his father (who was also a good tennis player). But other sports, such as table tennis, football and hockey, suited him very well too. Eventually he chose tennis completely and achieved great successes with Dutch championships and junior Davis Cup.

Rachel also came into contact with tennis at a young age through gym class at primary school and then started playing tennis at Popeye Goldstar until she was about 16. Stopped due to an injury, but seven years ago she immediately started playing tennis fanatically again. Fun fact is that in 2002 she was youth champion at LTC Amstelland, so she has actually been involved with LTC Startbaan for a long time.

With the Majors Tennis Academy, they both hope that prestige tennis at Startbaan will continue to increase. There are certainly a few talents among the current youth and it would be great if a number of them could really break through. Because tennis is quite an expensive sport, they want to make financial support possible for youth members who would otherwise not be able to practice this sport, both with their sponsorship of the tennis club and with their own youth fund. At the moment, Startbaan has approximately 280 youth members.

In addition, they would like to see the sponsorship money used for extra activities for the youth. Startbaan should become a club again where youngsters come together to play tennis (and not just train), but also do other activities such as watching football, Formula 1 and international tennis matches together, play games and have a nice meeting place.

They also hope for more diversity, both among the youth and the senior members.
